    Forbidden Lance VS Safe Zone

Post  Reaper of the Cards on Mon Sep 17, 2012 1:58 am

Scenario 1: If Safe Zone is activated, and Lance is chained to that activation, Lance resolves first, making the monster unaffected by spell/traps. Then Safe Zone resolves, targeting that monster, but not protecting it from targeting/destruction/battle in this turn. When the turn ends, Safe Zone re-applies its protecting effects on that monster, since it is no more unaffected by spell/traps.

Scenario 2: Safe Zone is already activated, and turns later, a Lance is used by the Safe Zone's owner on the monster that Safe Zone protects. That monster loses Safe Zone's protection in that turn, and can be normally destroyed by battle, since it is unaffected by Safe Zone's protection. When the turn ends, Safe Zone re-applies its protecting effects on that monster, since it is no more unaffected by spell/traps.

The reason why Safe Zone re-applies its effect at the end of the turn Lance was used, is because Safe Zone was never negated. It continued to target the monster, it just couldn't affect it (protect it) for the turn Lance was used. Its connection with the monster was never lost, so any protecting effects will re-apply once Lance's effect burns off.

NOTE: Call of the Haunted VS Trap Stun is a totally different case, and is not to be used as an example in this situation. Trap Stun negates the trap card, making it to lose its connection with the monster it targeted, permanently. But Lance doesn't negate anything. Lance affects the monster, where Trap Stun affects the backrow card. That's their main difference, and also the reason why Lance doesn't cut the cord between the Trap card and the monster.

In the second scenario how can you target the monster that safe zone is protecting since the safe zone do not allow to target that monster?

Activate by selecting 1 face-up Attack Position monster. That monster cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent's card effects, or be destroyed by battle. It cannot attack your opponent directly. When this card is removed from the field, destroy that monster. When that monster is removed from the field, destroy this card.

You can still target your monster. But I will edit the OP to make that clear, you are correct, it is not that clear.
